RELICS & REEDS
PART OF THE ROUTE 66 PUBLIC ART TRAIL
WELLSTON, OK 2026

Relics & Reeds is a monumental metal mosaic homage to the agricultural history of Wellston, Ok and the local flora of the plains that stretch historic Route 66. One section section of the underpass depicts a crop of wheat, and the other wild grasses including: Andropogon, Indian grass, switchgrass, buffalo grass, blue grama, side oats, and western wheatgrass. Together, the imagery represents native flora and monoculture, which are considered essential for sustaining human life. Amid the larger than life steel flora, rendered in aluminum are abstracted car rims, each representing a decade from Route 66's 100-year history honoring the iconic imagery of "the Mother Road."
